Today I went blueberry picking with some friends for a couple hours. 6 pounds of blueberries later I went to my grandma’s house to give her some of the berries I picked. She thanked me & I was so happy to give them to her.
Blueberries aren’t all people thank me for though.
Other than the periodic “thank you” for saying “bless you” after a sneeze, or opening a door or two for folks, people thank me for:
Advice. It’s worth what you pay for it…or at least that’s what I tell people. Advice about business, life, technology, storytelling, pitching. Most of the time I feel like I’m in no position to give advice, because I think I have so much still to learn. But it is nice to share what I have learned with others, so that is helpful enough that they thank me for it.
Gifts. Physical gifts, like blueberries or birthday presents. Intangible gifts, like a compliment or a phone call. Helping out someone with a chore or cooking dinner for someone.
It feels good to be thanked. What do people thank you for?
