I have been considering this question for awhile & my beliefs continue to develop & evolve as I learn more about life. There are many things I used to consider important & still do, but I started chipping away at that list to identify what is really the most important.
Here’s where I landed…
The most important thing in life…. relationships.
Not just relationships with significant others. All relationships. Friendships. Siblings. Parent/Child. Coach/Player. Student/Teacher. Spiritual relationships. Colleagues.
These are what matter most in life.
My relationship with my sister is extremely important to me.
My second in line was health, but here’s why I think relationships are more important than health…because with great relationships you can overcome poor health. Some of the strongest, most amazing people I know have been able to overcome extremely difficult health challenges because of the powerful relationships in their lives. You can have great relationships without having great health, but it’s not always true for the reverse. With the right relationships no matter what your physical health, you’ll be in a good place, surrounded by people who care about you & will be there for you every step of the way.
Relationships impact our life fulfillment, satisfaction with our personal & professional lives, & help us grow as individuals. I do think multiple types of relationships are important too….having only great relationships with friends but poor professional relationships isn’t balanced. I’m no poster child for relationships by all means. My business relationships have always stood out as compared to my personal relationships…a balance I continue to put in its place. Relationships can be scary because sometimes relationships end & it’s messy. But great things come with some risk. Is it time for you to make some risks to improve the relationships in your life?
