My alarm went off at 5:30 am MT time yesterday. I wanted to go for a run through Laramie‘s quaint downtown, but alas it was still pretty dark. So I opted for some squats & a brisk jog at the Safeway where we stopped for gas & caffeine. Once we hit the road I wasn’t able to sleep like I expected. Though I feel tired, the scenery is too wonderful to pass up. Land stretches for miles. I saw antelope & a cross country jumping course set up for horses. And we saw horses as well. The road is pretty calm with a semi truck to pass every now & then. It’s difficult to put my camera down, even from the car, because the views are so incredible. About an hour from Laramie we came across a field of wind turbines. This is the modern Oregon Trail. All of my oxen are dead.
We stopped for gas in Rock Springs, Wyoming & then soon thereafter at Little America. How can you not stop at Little America? They have billboards every 50 feet that give another reason to visit their compound…”Free Internet” with a photo of a smiling woman, “Sweet” with a photo of a donut, 50 cent ice cream cones….Wyoming’s version of an amusement park? We got a few little things there & headed on our way.
We drove all the way to Ogden, Utah before stopping again. We walked around the artsy quaint downtown & then stopped for lunch at Two Bit Street Cafe where we had a delicious lunch sitting outside in the sunny weather. After lunch we walked around some more, did some shopping, & then left town south to Kaysville, Utah, where my mom used to live. In Kaysville, we visited my mom’s previous house & the high school she attended. It was really cool to see! On our way back north we drove past Weber State University & stopped at a coffee shop near campus to caffinate & fuel up.
From there we jumped in the car for our final stretch to Boise, Idaho. Despite all the talk about the wildfires in Idaho, we did not see any. We did see some haze from the fires & we did see a semi truck on fire on the side of the road. Definitely not something you see every day.
We arrived in Boise about 9 pm, with some good time to visit with family & friends. This morning is the Dirty Dash in Boise. Go team Minnesota Mustaches!
